Musikkterapeutens ulike kompetanser. Tre musikkterapeuters beskrivelser av egne kompetanser i yrkesutøvelsen

Abstract

Abstract - This qualitative study is based on the descriptions of competencies in music therapy with adolescents provided by three music therapists. The aim of the study is to gain a deeper understanding of the qualities and skills that are valued within this field. The therapists' reflections and opinions are explored through three individual semi-structured research interviews, and a thematic analysis is performed to interpret the interviews and discuss them in relation to key perspectives in music therapy. The competencies described by the therapists are considered in light of expected competencies for music therapists upon completion of their education, as outlined in study plans and selected literature. The therapists' descriptions of musical and personal competencies are discussed in relation to their professional practice, with specific competencies highlighted as valuable in working with adolescents. Challenges, opportunities, and ethical considerations are addressed, and implications for further research are discussed. The results reveal a range of competencies identified by the therapists, including concrete musical skills, relational competencies, and skills that appear to be specific to this field.
