Abstract

Denne studien søker å undersøke elever handlingskompetanse innen bærekraftig utvikling. Oppgaven er en kvalitativ teoridrevet innholdsanalyse av elevers samtaler. Det teoretiske rammeverket vi har benyttet oss av er Sass et al. (2020) sin videreutvikling av begrepet handlingskompetanse. For å belyse flere sider av elevenes handlingskompetanse har vi i tillegg benyttet oss av en spørreundersøkelse for å måle et øyeblikksbilde av elevenes handlingskompetanse. Spørreundersøkelsen er en oversatt versjon av Sass et al. (2021) sin spørreundersøkelse, som de utviklet og validerte for aldersgruppen 10-14 år i Flandern, Belgia. Oppgaven tar sikte i å svare på hvordan handlingskompetanse kommer til uttrykk gjennom et undervisningsopplegg bestående av to naturfagsøkter à 60 minutter. Studien viser at elevene benytter seg mest av faktakunnskap, kritisk refleksjon og handlingsmuligheter. Det er varierende hvilke elevaktiviteter som stimulerer til de ulike tegnene av handlingskompetanse innen bærekraftig utvikling. Måten tegnene til handlingskompetanse kommer til uttrykk i elevsamtalene setter spørsmålstegn ved den målte handlingskompetansen ved spørreskjemaet. Felles begge datamaterialene er at elevene viser en lav grad av vilje til å handle i forhold til kunnskaper og ferdigheter for å kunne ta bærekraftige valg. This study aims to investigate students' action competence in sustainable development. The task is a qualitative theory-driven content analysis of students' conversations. The theoretical framework we have utilized is the further development of the concept of action competence by Sass et al. (2020). To illuminate various aspects of students' action competence, we have also used a survey to measure a snapshot of students' action competence. The survey is a translated version of the survey developed and validated by Sass et al. (2021) for the age group of 10-14 years in Flanders, Belgium. The task aims to answer how action competence is expressed through a teaching sequence consisting of two 60-minute science sessions. The study shows that students primarily rely on factual knowledge, critical reflection, and possibilities for action. The student activities that stimulate the different indicators of action competence in sustainable development vary. The way the indicators of action competence are expressed in student conversations raises questions about the measured action competence through the questionnaire. Both data sources reveal that students demonstrate a low degree of willingness to act in relation to knowledge and skills needed to make sustainable choices.
