Abstract

This Master Theesis is about health work within the frames of societal security, through an analysis of mental healthwork in a high security prison in Norway. Theoretical starting point is contextual approach, salutogenese, from within practice, power and impotence, and the importance of relations. Method for research was focus-group interviews, and analytic approach was thematic analysis. The analysis resulted in four topics; «Doesn’t follow the classic department-rule book», «Allowed to be yourself», «A slightly better day» and «The right help to the right time». My findings in this research project illustrate that some of the work at department X, can be labelled as mental healthwork. The analytic results are discussed through theoretical concepts and research in the divisions; An alternative approach, facilitation, adaptation and relational interaction, impotence, autonomy and coping, and competence and interdisciplinary cooperation.
