Abstract

Denne masteroppgaven tar sikte på å få innsikt i hvordan elever i 10. klasse ved en skole i en norsk storby forstår rasisme, og hvilke synspunkter elevene har på antirasistiske markeringer på sosiale medier. Oppgaven har et kvalitativt forskningsdesign, der semistruktuelle intervjuer med to elevgrupper på henholdsvis fire og tre elever har blitt brukt som innsamlingsmetode. Denne oppgaven vektlegger elevenes subjektive forståelser av begrepet rasisme, og deres ulike synspunkter på antirasistiske markeringer. Analysen av intervjumaterialet viser at elevene har en kulturell forståelse av rasismebegrepet, og elevene anser rasisme mot religioner, da spesielt islam som et større problem i Norge enn rasisme mot enkeltes hudfarge. Uten at studien kan generaliseres viser intervjuene tendenser til at elever med minoritetsbakgrunn kan mer om rasisme, og viser et større engasjement. Studien sammenligner også diskrimineringsformen rasisme med homofobi, og finner blant annet ut at elevene ser både likheter og ulikheter mellom disse. Studien viser også at elevene er positive til bruken av sosiale medier for Black Lives Matter-bevegelsen, men evner å se svakheter ved noen antirasistiske markeringer, og ser at andre fungerer bedre. Elevene viser god kritisk tenking, og er medvitne til at kommersielle interesser kan for noen komme før den gode saken for enkelte mennesker.
