Finite element analyse av en skråstagsbro

Abstract

This thesis provides a static analysis of a Cable-Stayed Bridge using the Finite Element Analysis in ANSYS Workbench software. The static loads that were taken into consideration are the traffic loads and the static wind loads on the bridge deck on longitudinal and transverse directions.The bridge chosen for this thesis is Helgeland Bridge (Helgelandbrua) in Alstahaug municipality in Nordland County, Norway. A brief history of cable-stayed bridges and a background of construction process are presented in chapter 1, construction details are provided both for cable-stayed bridges and for the simulated bridge are included in chapter 2, details of static analysis and geometry of the bridge are then carried out in chapter 3, and small geometrical simplifications were made to achieve the best result and accuracy that the software functions allow in a way that it would not be on the expense of the accuracy of the real structure and thus the results. The calculations of the loads applied on the bridge are made according to EuroCode1. Chapter 4 is concerned with the finite element analysis, meshing process, and simulation details before leading to the results and conclusion in chapter 5. The results of the static analysis are presented both graphically and numerically and compared to the limitations of the construction materials. A brief overview of the methodology and parts of the simulation work is presented in the Appendix with focus on the solutions for the encountered challenges. The software used for the simulation is ANSYS Workbench 2020.
