Abstract

Bakgrunn: God helse skapes der hvor mennesker lever sine liv. Tidligere erfaringer viser at det ikke er tilstrekkelig med invitasjon til medvirkning fra innbyggere i stedsutviklingen. Medvirkning er et helsefremmende prinsipp for å endre ytre påvirkningsfaktorer. Det kan være behov for å se på nye eller andre måter å tilnærme seg kunnskap om hvordan lokalsamfunn og nærmiljø påvirker individers mestring, og om medvirkning kan være en styrkende faktor. Studiens hensikt: Hensikten med denne studien har vert å undersøke hvordan ungdommer erfarer at medvirkning påvirker deres mestring og den sosiale bærekraften i lokalsamfunnet. Materiale og metode: Datamaterialet ble samlet inn gjennom syv semistrukturerte intervjuer. Alle informantene var aktiv med medvirkning, og var medlem i et styre eller råd. Som analysemetode brukte jeg systematisk tekstkondensering. Resultater: Studiens resultater fremhever både positive og negative erfaringer i møte med medvirkning. Ungdommene føler på empowerment, mestring og tilhørighet når de medvirker. Samtidig føler de også på avmakt, lite mestring og mangel på tilhørighet når de ikke blir inkludert eller hørt. Videre viser resultatene at ungdommene utvikler kunnskaper og ferdigheter gjennom medvirkning. Konklusjon: Studien viser i likhet med tidligere litteratur, kunnskap og forskning at ungdommene blir inkludert, men for sent, de har en påvirkningskraft, men ingen reel medvirkning. For å danne fremtidige helsefremmende og sosialt bærekraftige lokalsamfunn bør det legges mer til rette for medvirkning fra ungdommer i stedsutviklingsprosesser. Medvirkning i seg selv kan være helsefremmende for ungdommer, da det bidrar til økt mestring, empowerment og tilhørighet. Samtidig kan medvirkning danne fremtidige demokratisk aktive innbyggere.
