Personlighetstrekk og atferdsmessige avhengigheter: en systematisk litteraturstudie

Abstract

Background: Behavioral addictions such as gambling addiction and Internet addiction is an increasing global concern. Previous research has shown that various personality traits may be associated with substance abuse. However, it is unclear how personality traits are associated with other addictions such as gambling-and Internet addiction. Objective: Investigate the relationship between personality traits presented in Big Five, and gambling- and Internet addiction. Method: A systematic literature review of quantitative studies was conducted, resulting in 16 findings. Results and discussion: The search conducted for gambling addiction resulted in 6 studies, and the search conducted for internet addiction resulted in 10 studies. The personality trait of neuroticism was associated with both gambling- and Internet addiction. Both addictions were associated with lower scores on conscientiousness. However, the association was stronger for gambling addiction than for Internet addiction. Further research is needed to determine the correlation between behavioral addiction and the remaining personality traits. Keywords: big five; behavioral addictions; gambling addiction; internet addiction
