Abstract

Organizations must be able to handle a technology-intensive society that requires adjustment and continuous learning. Many organizations use the agile framework to address these challenges. In this master's thesis, I ask the question: How do Norwegian organizations use the agile framework to adapt to changing environments? I try find the answer by studying six well-established companies that have implemented the agile framework. I have conducted an exploratory multiple case study of in-depth interviews with employees who use the agile framework and HRM in their work. Findings from the literature and case study suggest that an agile mindset is essential for adapting to changing environments. An agile mindset is also necessary to exploit the agile framework. This thesis shows that organizations are working actively to facilitate the agile framework and agile teams by developing the mindset, culture and learning within the organization and by changing the organizational structure, amongst other things. The decision-making is decentralized, and employees work in interdisciplinary self-managed teams in the new structure. Additionally, findings and literature are presented, which indicate that organizations can make their teams work towards the organization's goals through management by objectives and coordination.

Organisasjoner må kunne håndtere et teknologiintensivt samfunn som stiller store krav til omstilling og kontinuerlig læring. Mange organisasjoner bruker det smidige rammeverket for å håndtere disse utfordringene. I denne masteravhandlingen stiller jeg spørsmålet: Hvordan bruker norske organisasjoner det smidige rammeverket for å tilpasse seg omgivelser i endring? Jeg prøver å besvare det gjennom å studere seks veletablerte selskaper som har implementert det smidige rammeverket. Jeg har foretatt en flercasestudie med dybdeintervjuer med ansatte som jobber med rammeverket og HRM. Studien presenterer funn og litteratur som antyder at et smidig tankesett er viktig for å justere seg etter omgivelser i endring. Et smidig tankesett er også nødvendig for å få full utnyttelse av det smidige rammeverket. Studien viser at organisasjonene aktivt tilrettelegger for rammeverket og smidige team gjennom utvikling av tankesett, kultur, læring og gjennom å endre strukturen på selskapet. I den nye strukturen er beslutningsmakten desentralisert og ansatte jobber i tverrfaglige selvstyrte team. Videre presenteres funn og litteratur som viser at organisasjoner, med hjelp av målstyring og koordinering, kan få teamene til å jobbe mot selskapets mål.
