Aktivitet som behandlingsmetode for rusavhengig ungdom

Aktivitet som behandlingsmetode for rusavhengig ungdom

Abstract

Substance abuse among young people is a societal problem that requires treatment and follow-up from health and social workers. The addiction often occurs together with other mental disorders such as depression and anxiety, and a large proportion of drug addicts experience relapse into intoxication after treatment. The purpose of this study is to investigate how activity can be a contribution to helping this target group. Based on Aaron Antonovsky’s theory of “sense of coherence”, the study has discussed the problem: “How can health and social workers use activity as a treatment method in work with drug-addicted youth?” To investigate the problem, a literature search was performed on digital databases using a qualitative research method. Articles were found that were using activity as a method. These articles emphasize various factors that have a therapeutic effect on drug-addicted adolescents. The most central factors were structure, mastery and community, which can be related to Antonovsky’s three concepts: Comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness. The study concludes that activity as a treatment method is a good contribution for drug-addicted youth, as a sense of coherence can be strengthened through experiences from the activity.
