Sorte skjermer- norskundervisning i en pandemi. Semistrukturert intervju av fire norsklærere på yrkesfag

Abstract

The purpose of this assignment is to find out which didactic measures the informants used while they were teaching Norwegian online in vocational subjects, and how that possibly changed from how they previously taught in the classroom. This was a completely new situation and little research has been done thus far, and therefore I want to contribute with more information to the field. I do this through three different research questions and one thesis statement: «How did Norwegian teachers teach vocational subjects to black screens under the COVID-19 pandemic? With the main focus on reading, writing and speaking; in what way did this affect their didactics in the Norwegian subject?». In order to answer my thesis statement I have conducted several semi-structured interviews with supplementary surveys. I had four informants, from four different High Schools. My study is based on previous research and theory on communication, engagement, basic skills, reading, writing and speaking. The analysis shows that the students who were already strong in the ordinary classroom setting, continued to participate in the online learning. The students who were not involved in the physical classroom setting however, disappeared to a greater extent behind the black screens. The informants' didactics changed in some cases, such as during reading and speaking. The reason behind this seems to lie in the communication difficulties between the teacher (sender) and the student (recipient). It does not seem like the writing didactics changed that much with home school, except in some cases where the teachers gave the students more tasks. The study shows that a common challenge is the communication between the teacher and the student in relation to the fact that the students sat behind a black screen with a muted microphone.
