Idrett og ungdom med funksjonshemming

Abstract

Summary Title: Sports and youth with disabilities. Introduction/background: People with disabilities are less in physical activity than the rest of the population. We can see that the number of people that does parasports is much less, than people that does organized sports. Sports can give the benefits of better health, and then give better functional ability. Purpose: The purpose with this task, is to be more aware of the barriers that people with disabilities often meets when they do organized sports. Method: The method used in this task is literature study. and the problem statement gets illustrated between five different and recent research articles, with other relevant theories. Results: After going through these five different research articles carefully, the result section got parted in five different themes: 1. Humans does the difference, 2. The cost and transport restrictions, 3. Lack of facilitation, 4. Stigma, and 5. Person-related barriers. These findings became the starting point for the discussion section. Conclusion: Many things points to the fact that the facilitation with doing parasports is not enough. Facilitation is also about lack of offers for the youth that has disabilities. In many countries, the cost of doing parasports is expensive. In addition to this, the problem is also that the society has an negative attitude. A big challenge is lack of inclusion that happens in a lot of schools, and there is not many sports teams that has an offer to the people with disabilities. Inclusion is a responsibility that society needs to work on together. Here are the voices of the social nurses important for inclusion in sports. Keywords: Parasport, youth, disabilities, barriers and participation.
