Natura 2000 i Norge

Authors: Fremstad, Eli;

Natura 2000 i Norge

Abstract

The report surveys the habitats (types of environment or vegetation) found in Norway, which are included in Natura 2000, a list of habitats considered endangered in Europe. Norway would be obliged to introduce conservation measures for these habitats if she was an EU member. The "Norwegian" Natura 2000 habitats are compared with those selected by the Directorate for Nature Management for the investigation of biological diversity being undertaken by local authorities, vegetation types in Norway, endangered vegetation types in Norway (Table 1) and marine habitats (Table 2). An interpretation is given of the content, scope and relevance for Norway of the Natura 2000 units. All those found in Norway are then briefly described, including their Norwegian and English names, ecology and distribution, and an evaluation of how far they are adequately protected today. The extent of none of them is known. Some vegetation types considered endangered in Norway have no parallels in the Natura 2000 system.
