Abstract

Rapporten gir et sammendrag av dagens kunnskapsnivå om BTEX og 1,3-butadien som luftforurensningsproblem med hovedvekt på benzen. Helseundersøkelser har vist at både benzen og 1,3-butadien kan være kreftfremkallende og at det ikke finnes noen sikre nedre eksponeringsgrenser. Norske måledata kan antyde høyere benziennivåer i norske byer enn i andre europeiske land det er naturlig å sammenlikne med. Likevel er utslippene fra biltrafikken, som er hovedkilden, nesten halvert de siste 15 årene. Med en eventuell ytterligere reduksjon av benzeninnholdet i bensin og stadig flere biler med katalysator kan utslippene fortsatt reduseres betydelig.
