Abstract

Nøkkelord: Selvbestemmelse, utviklingshemming, tjenesteyter, dilemma, relasjonell tilnærming Bakgrunn: I Meld. St. 45, 2012–2013 vises det til at det er store utfordringer i skjæringspunktet mellom selvbestemmelse og ivaretakelse (Barne- og familiedepartementet, 2013). Det vil derfor være nødvendig at tjenesteyter i arbeid med utviklingshemmede er bevisste rundt denne balansegangen. Hensikt: Hensikten med denne bacheloroppgaven er å få et innblikk i hvordan tjenesteytere i arbeid med utviklingshemming på ulike måter kan risikere å begrense selvbestemmelsen til brukeren. Oppgaven ønsker også å utforske på hvilke grunnlag vurderinger knyttet til selvbestemmelse tas. Metode: Metoden for denne oppgaven er en litteraturstudie. Forskningsgrunnlaget tar utgangspunkt i fem kvalitative fagfellevurderte artikler tilknyttet oppgavens tema og problemstilling. Resultat: Funnene fra artiklene peker mot at tjenesteytere kan risikere å begrense selvbestemmelse ved å eksempelvis beskytte eller skjerme brukeren og avlede eller overtale brukeren. Det kan også tyde på at noen tjenesteytere har en tendens til å tenke at de vet hva som er det beste for brukeren og ikke involvere brukeren i situasjoner. Funnene peker også mot at tjenesteytere tidvis må begrense selvbestemmelsen for å ivareta ulike hensyn. Konklusjon: Tjenesteytere i arbeid med mennesker med utviklingshemming kan til tider ha stor makt og innflytelse over brukerens liv, dette kommer til syne i eksemplene om tjenesteyters vurderinger og beslutninger knyttet til selvbestemmelse. Oppgaven konkluderer med viktigheten av relasjoner og samhandling med bruker, slik at skjønnsmessige vurderinger knyttet til brukerens selvbestemmelse gjøres på basis av brukerens reelle forutsetninger og for brukerens beste.
