Abstract

I denne oppgaven anvendes James Colemans’s skoleproduktfunksjon, som forklaring på myndigheters påvirkningskraft ved leseferdigheter hos barn. Oppgaven ønsker å finne svar på hvorvidt deltagelse i barnehage vil gi positiv effekt på elevenes evne til å lese. Gode leseferdigheter hos barn forklares derimot i stor grad av sosioøkonomisk bakgrunn, hvor myndighetenes verktøykasse i form av barnehager, ikke virker å kunne påvirke i stor grad. Videre argumenteres det for at jenter presterer bedre grunnet robusthet overfor endringer i økonomisk bakgrunn og tidligere utvikling av kognetive evner. Dette kan ikke bekreftes, grunnet høy usikkerhet tilknyttet resultatet. Det finnes dermed intet grunnlag for å konkludere med en systematisk signifikant sammenheng mellom barnehagedeltagelse og leseferdigheter. I analysen brukes elevkarakteristika og skolekrakateristika som kontrollvariabler for leseferdigheter.
