English: Some master’s degrees in Norway has been criticized for having a low degree of relevance to professional work. One choice for accounting this criticism is to facilitate for master’s thesis based on experimental development. With the reference to a case study the article discusses what the cultural hindrances are for writing thesis based on experimental development, in what way experimental development can have more relevance to professional work than theses based on traditional research, and which requirements we may have to assessment of theses that document experimental development in professional work.
Mastergradene i Norge har vært kritisert for å ha for liten grad av yrkesrelevans. En måte å imøtekomme kritikken ville være å legge til rette for masteroppgaver på grunnlag av faglig utviklingsarbeid. Med bakgrunn i en case studie diskuterer artikkelen årsaker til at faglige utviklingsarbeider i liten grad ligger til grunn for masteroppgaver, på hvilke måter faglige utviklingsarbeider har større grad av yrkesrelevans enn tradisjonelle forskningsarbeider og hvilke krav vi bør stille til masteroppgaver som dokumenterer faglige utviklingsarbeider.
