Vurdering for motivasjon

Authors: Bullgård, Erlend Kristoffer;

Vurdering for motivasjon

Abstract

In this thesis, it has been investigated in which ways grades can influence the school pupils' motivation. The investigation was based on what three pupils in the eighth grade think about going to a school where they only receive grades for the half-yearly assessments and the final assessment. The empirical data was obtained using qualitative interviews and the findings from these interviews are discussed in light of theories in motivation and assessment in school. Some of the findings indicate that students can become more performance-oriented rather than task-oriented with having grades in their daily school lives and their self-esteem may also be threatened more often. There are also signs that students may benefit more from the feedback if it comes without a grade.
