Abstract

Skolefritidsordningen (SFO) i Norge strekker seg tilbake til 1950-tallet, men da som såkalte fritidshjem. Ordningen med SFO, både i omfang og oppmerksomhet, skjøt fart på slutten av 1980-tallet, og det var med innføringen av Reform 97 at skolefritidsordningen slik vi kjenner den i dag, ble innført. Seksårsreformen økte behovet for tilsyn av de minste barna etter ordinær skoletid. I dag er SFO blitt en naturlig del av skolestarten for de fleste. Det ble gjennomført en nasjonal evaluering av SFO i 2002, men utover dette er det lite oppdatert og helhetlig kunnskap om SFO i Norge.
