This project covers technical installations and sites along rivers in Norway connected to the history of flood, erosion and landslide protection and river transport such as levees, embankments, canals, channelization works, sills and groynes. The aim of the project is to present a representative list of sites worthy of preservation and contribute to the future preservation of the most important sites. Protecting people and their assets against the ravages of floods and other natural hazards along rivers has always been one of NVEs main tasks. The history of flood protection in Norway from the 18th century and onwards is outlined in the report. The project will hopefully increase our knowledge and our awareness of the importance of the different sites.
