Abstract

I artikkelen er det foreslått et prinsipp for en generell arealklassifikasjon etter verdi for jordbruk, på grunnlag av jord-, klimaog terrengkvalitet. Systemet innebærer en gradering av dyrkbar jord i 6 klasser: Klasse I. Ingen viktige begrensninger. Et stort antall vekster kan gi god og årsikker avling. Klasse 2. Få begrensinger. De fleste vekster kan gi god og årsikker avling. Klasse 3. Moderate begrensninger. Valgmulighetene er begrensede, men enkelte vekster kan gi god avling. Klasse 4. Betydelige begrensninger. Valgmulighetene er sterkt begrensede. men grovfor kan gi god avling. Klasse 5. Sterke begrensninger. Åkerdyrking er vanligvis lite aktuelt, men rimelig grasavling kan oppnås enkelte år. Klasse 6. Svært sterke begrensninger. Marginal for fulldyrking, men overflatedyrking og beitebruk kan være aktuelt. De avgjørende faktorer for klassifikasjon etter jord- og klimakvalitet må være jordas produksjonsevne, årsikkerhet og muligheter for vekstvalg. Arealene graderes i tillegg etter hellingsgrad, arealstørrelse, steininnhold og fjellblotninger. Dyrkingsklassen blir bestemt ved en totalvurdering av jordas produktivitet og begrensninger.
