Læreres tilpasning av virtuell undervisning

Abstract

The purpose of this study has been to seek insight into how teachers in the project «Den Virtuelle Matematikkskolen» chooses to customize their day-to-day lessons to students with high achievements in mathematics, in a virtual classroom. «Den Virtuelle Matematikkskolen» is a pilot project run by the Department of education and the Center for Information, Communication and technology in education. In which student between the 8th and 10th grade get the opportunity to receive mathematics lessons on a higher level. The lessons last for an hour, twice a week in a virtual classroom with a teacher. To be able to seek insight into which customizations the teacher do, I have conducted semistructured qualitative interviews with three of the teachers that teach in the project and observed one lesson lead by each of them. I used this data to identify how the teachers understand the term «customized teaching», which frameworks the teachers experienced dictated their possibility to customize their lessons, and to identify which customizations that are most prominent in the interviews and observations. By illuminating these questions, I have formed a picture of how the teachers in the project customize their lessons and of what plays a part in the choice of customization. One of the findings from my analysis are that, despite the fact that the teacher I interviewed have a varied understanding of the term «Customized teaching», there are a few customizations that all the teachers chose to implement in their lessons, and that “DVM” still have steps to take concerning customized teaching. The most prominent customizations the teachers chose to implement in their lessons were the tasks they chose to use. Through them the teachers varies the difficulty and tempo of the lessons to the students as a group and as individuals.
