Abstract

Det er en stor utfordring å få elever til å fullføre skolegangen på yrkesfag i den videregående skolen. Frafallsproblematikken har vært gjennomgående diskusjonstema i lang tid. At elever slutter skolegangen før bestått eksamen eller fagbrev, er ikke et nytt fenomen. Det er heller ikke noe som er spesielt i Norge (Fafo 2010:03). Det er en oppfatning blant skolemyndigheter, lærere, foreldre og andre aktører at frafallsproblematikken av elever på yrkesfag i den videregående skole er et problem og en utfordring. Når fire av ti yrkesfagelever fullfører på normert tid (Ibid), er dette en for lav gjennomstrømning. Vi har hatt flere reformer de siste ti-åra; Reform 94 og Kunnskapsløftet, som har vært rettet inn mot yrkesfagene. Skolemyndigheter har satt i gang ulike tiltak for å redusere elevfrafallet på yrkesfag. Lærerkompetansen er hevet og ressurser er satt inn for å styrke elevene (Ibid). Forskning viser at ikke alle igangsatte tiltak gir ønsket resultat for å redusere elevfrafallet (NOVA 12/10, Wollscheid og Noonan, 2012). Elevfrafallet på yrkesfag går ikke ned.
