Abstract

Bakgrunn Psykiske plager og lidelser er et problem blant barn og unge. 15-20% barn og unge i alderen 3-18 år har psykiske plager, der 8% av disse har så alvorlige problemer at det går under psykisk lidelse. Forskning sier 6,6% av ungdommene skader seg selv. En faglig diskusjon fra undervisningen om hvordan håndtere selvskading, og en psykiatripraksis med ungdommer som skjulte seg selv fra omverdenen ble inspirasjonen til problemstillingen. Problemstilling Hvordan kan sykepleier forstå og møte skam i etterkant av selvskading hos unge pasienter? Fremgangsmåte Denne oppgaven er en litteraturstudie. Fremgangsmåten er valgt for å finne ut hva eksisterende forskning og annen litteratur sier om skam og selvskading, der selvskading inkluderer selvmordsforsøk som ytterste skade på seg selv. Oppsummering Dette litteraturstudiet beskriver hvordan skam kan virke destruktivt inn på selvbildet og medføre til selvødeleggende atferd som selvskading og selvmordsforsøk. Sykepleiere kan øke forståelse ved å ha kunnskap om skammens virkning på selvet, hvordan gjenkjenne skam i atferd og på hvilken måte selvskading fungerer som mestringsstrategi og kommunikasjon. Da vil sykepleieren kunne avgrense seg for å se mennesket bak handlingen, vise forståelse og omsorg til den unge pasienten.
