Abstract

This study is an innovation-oriented efforttrying out tutorial videos in Electrical Trade Studies Basic Course forfirst year students. The studyis based on the teaching method flipped classroom. The teaching method involves transferring the teacher’s traditional blackboard teaching to a digital medium. The tutorial videos are made in collaborationwith a teacher at Strinda high school. The tutorial videos have been published on the website YouTube. The purpose of this study is to examine how the teacher and the students experience the use of tutorial videos. The main research question is: How does the teacher and the students experience flipped classroom? We have also developed four subordinate questions.1)How do the teacher and the students use tutorial videos?2)Which criteria emphasize teacher and students in the evaluation of tutorial videos?3)How does the teacher's autonomy contribute to altering the school? To answer the research question a single case study with four different units of analysis were designed. This includes four classes with 60 students. The data is obtained using qualitative methods such as interview, observation and reflecting log. The sample of study consists of five students and a teacher. The findings from the empirical data show that students react positive to tutorial videos in their education. The tutorial videos contribute to differentiate student’s education because of the teacher needing less time onthe blackboard. The abilityto repeat the content in the tutorial videos both in the electrical workshop and outside school probably strengthens students learning outcomes. The tutorial videos are a satisfactory supplement and can be used as a substitute to traditional education.

Undersøkelsen tar utgangspunkt i undervisningsmetoden omvendt undervisning.
