Rusproblemer blandt eldre

Abstract

Rusproblemer blant eldre har vært et ignorert problem som har fått liten oppmerksomhet i hjelpeapparatet(1-5). Rusproblemer blant eldre er ofte mistolket, oversett, underbehandlet eller ikke behandlet (2). Hensikten med denne artikkelen er å vise behovet for oppmerksomhet på denne problematikken i helse- og omsorgstjenesten overfor eldre og på sentrale utfordringer som tjenesten kommer til å møte med tanke på å utvikle god hjelp også til denne gruppen av eldre. I artikkelen redegjør vi først for bakgrunnen for at denne problematikken blir framhevet i dag, og hvordan utviklingen av sentrale begreper innen dette feltet kan forstås. Artikkelen framhever videre at eldre med rusproblemer vil være en variert gruppe, og peker på forskjeller i betydning om rusproblem har vart gjennom hele livsløpet, sammenliknet med om rusproblem har oppstått i eldre år. Eldre kvinner med rusproblemer er dessuten en særlig utsatt gruppe. Siste hoveddel av artikkelen drøfter særskilt sentrale utfordringer i helse- og omsorgstjenesten og peker på forskningsutfordringer innen denne tematikken.
