Ved en sammenlignende laboratorieprøving (SLP) arrangert i oktober – november 2009 deltok 75 laboratorier i bestemmelse av pH, suspendert stoff (tørrstoff og gløderest), sum organisk stoff (biokjemisk oksygenforbruk, kjemisk oksygenforbruk, totalt organisk karbon), totalfosfor, totalnitrogen og ni tungmetaller i syntetiske vannprøver. Ved SLPen, som har sitt utgangspunkt i Klifs og fylkesmennenes kontroll med industriutslipp, er 84 % av resultatene ansett som akseptable. Dette er noe høyere enn ved de foregående SLPene. Spesielt var det en oppgang for suspendert stoffs gløderest, biologisk oksygenforbruk og totalt organisk karbon. I forhold til den siste SLPen var det også en fremgang i kvaliteten for tungmetallene. Ved denne SLP, som tidligere, ble det påvist at bestemmelse av totalnitrogen med forenklede metoder ikke gir akseptable resultater ved analyse av denne typen vannprøver.
