Tungmetallforurensning i Kvina. Undersøkelser av vannkjemi og bunnfauna

Abstract

Det er utført undersøkelser av tungmetaller og forsuring i Kvinavassdraget. I Knabeåni, som mottar avrenning fra nedlagte Knaben gruver, var konsentrasjonene av kobber og labilt aluminium høye nok til å medføre lavt artsantall av bunnfauna. Konsentrasjonene av molybden (maksimalverdi 28 µg/l) var langt lavere enn det som antas å skade vannboende organismer. I Kvina oppstøms kalkdoserer var forsuringen hovedårsaken til lavt artsantall av bunndyr (pH rundt 5,0 og labilt aluminum 30-70 µg/l). Det ble allikevel registrert flere arter i 2001 enn ved undersøkelsen i 1991-1992, trolig grunnet redusert forsuring. Nederst i vassdraget lå konsentrasjonene av tungmetaller på nivå med forventede bakgrunnsverdier. Kalkingen synes ikke å ha mobilisert molybden fra elvesedimentene. Det er ikke påvist utlekking av tungmetaller fra den utfylte strandpromenaden ved Kvinesdal sentrum.
