Bruk av kitosan fra BioEffect AS for fjerning av humus fra drikkevann

Abstract

For å dokumentere utvalgte kitosankvaliteter produsert av BioEffect AS som fellingsmiddel for fjerning av humus, er det gjennomført forsøk i laboratorie-, pilot- og fullskala ved Blakstad vannverk i Aust-Agder. Resultatene fra laboratorieforsøkene (jar-tester) viste at det er mulig å redusere råvannets fargetall fra 25 mg Pt/l til 6 mg Pt/l (76% reduksjon) med kitosandoser fra 1,4 til 2,2 mg/l og ved fellings-pH mellom 5,2 og 5,5. Det var forholdsvis små forskjeller i effekt mellom ulike kitosankvaliteter. Ved pilotforsøkene (direktefiltrering i Filtralite og sand) var fargetallet i råvannet lavere (15 mg Pt/l). Ved kitosandoser fra 0,7 til 1,5 mg/l var det bare små forskjeller i rentvannsfarge. I gjennomsnitt lå rentvannsfargen rundt 4 mg Pt/l, tilsvarende 73% reduksjon. Heller ikke for oppløst organisk karbon (DOC) var det påviselig forskjeller i effekt i doseringsområdet fra 0,7 til 1,5 mg/l. Imidlertid synes effekten av kitosanfellingen å være noe bedre ved pH 4 enn ved høyere pH (5,2-5,5). Det ble også registrert en betydelig reduksjon av råvannets aluminium- jerninnhold, henholdsvis 79 og 65%. Forsøkene som har vært kjørt ved Blakstad vannverk viser at det er mulig å oppnå tilfredstillende rentvannsfarge med lave doser kitosan som fellingsmiddel.
