Abstract

Hensikten med forsøkene som ble kjørt ved Ølen Vassverk var å vurdere kitosan som en mulig koagulant ved direktefiltrering. Det var av spesiell intresse å undersøke mulighetene for å oppdrettholde et lavt fargetall i rentvannet med lave kitosandoseringer (1.0 - 1.5 mg/l) ved varierende råvannkvalitet. I en periode hvor fargetallet varierte mellom 11,4 og 40,0 mg Pt/l ble det oppnådd en gjennomsnittlig reduksjon i fargetall på 63,3 % med en fast kitosandose på 1,5 mg/l og fellings-pH i området 4,6-5,3. Dette ved nedstrøms filtrering (8,5 m/h) i pilotskala hvor Filtralite og sand ble benyttet som filtermedium. Totalt organisk karbon (TOC) og turbiditet ble redusert med henholdsvis 36,2 % og 50,0 %. Råvannets innhold av aluminium og jern ble også redusert.
