Abstract

Undersøkelser av overflatevannet i Sørfjorden (månedstokt), med hovedvekt på tungmetaller (sink, kadmium, bly, kopper og kvikksølv) i 1998 viser at konsentrasjonene jevnt over går ned i indre fjord sammenlignet med tidligere år. I tidsrommet august -september må det ha skjedd ekstraordinære tilførsler av metaller til overflatelaget. Dette ble registrert ved prøveinnsamlingen i september, med høyere nivåer midtfjords enn i Eitrheimsvågen. De ordinære tilførslene av tungmetaller fra de tre største bedriftene har gått noe ned sammenlignet med 1997, med unntak av kadmium, bly og PAH hvor tilførslene har økt noe. Situasjonen sett under ett viser at forholdene i overflatevannet fortsatt er ustabil og det antas at dette skyldes uregelmessige tilførsler fra diffuse kilder knyttet til de store industriområdene nær Odda.
