Abstract

Vannkjemiske undersøkelser utført i Sørfjorden i 1997 viste at nivåene av metaller i overflatelaget ble påvirket av et uhellsutslipp ved Norzink i mars 1997. Dette førte til en umiddelbar forurensning av Eitrheimsvågen og havnebassenget allerede to dager etter at utslippet skjedde. En måned senere kunne man se rester av dette utslippet i ytre deler av fjorden. Ellers ser det ut til at nivåene av metaller både i overflatevannet og i dypvannet (200 m) er på vei ned. Ved 40 m dyp ble det registrert en liten økning i forhold til 1996. Situasjonen er således fortsatt labil og overflatevannet i indre deler av fjorden er fortsatt sterkt til meget sterkt forurenset av metaller i henhold til SFTs klassifiseringssystem. Basert på gradientstudier så er det åpenbart at dette skyldes tilførsler via Eitrheimsvågen.
