Forsuring og tungmetallforurensning i Sør-Varanger. Fremdriftsrapport for 1990

Abstract

Fra 1966 til 1986 ble konsentrasjonene av sulfat i innsjøer øst for Kirkenes mer enn fordoblet. Innsjøovervåkingen fra 1986 til 1990 viser at forsuringssituasjonen har vært tilnærmet stabil i denne perioden. Pasvikelva har en betryggende høy motstandskraft mot forsuring, og det er små endringer i vannkjemien siden 1979/1980. Grense-Jacobselva er sterkere påvirket av sur nedbør enn Pasvikelva, men den resterende bufferkapasiteten er trolig høy nok til å unngå forsuringsskader. Det er forhøyede konsentrasjoner av nikkel og kobber i innsjøer og elver i Sør-Varanger. Spesielt nær grensen øst for Kirkenes er nikkelkonsentrasjonene betenkelig høye.
