Abstract

Bakgrunn: Globalisering er en rask og ukontrollerbar fenomen. Sammen med dens progressive effekt i samfunnet, oppstår menneskers bevissthet om de utfordringer som helsevesenet møter i samhandling med en multikulturell populasjon. Mangel på kulturell kompetanse hos helsearbeidere er et åpenbart og voksende problem i alle settinger i helsevesenet. Problemstilling: Hvordan kan sykepleierstudenter tilegne seg tilstrekkelig kulturell kompetanse? Hensikt: Formålet med denne studie er å skaffe mer kunnskap om kulturell kompetanse og finne ut hvordan man tilegner seg kompetansen. Samtidig skal det utforskes ulike intervensjoner fra tidligere forskningsarbeid for å komme med nye idéer og metoder om hvordan man kan tilrettelegge sykepleierstudenters behov for å tilegne kulturell kompetanse. Metode: Metoden som ble brukt i denne oppgave er en litteraturstudie. Resultat: Kulturell kompetanse er ens evne til å fungere effektivt i konteksten av kulturell diversitet. Å tilegne seg kulturell kompetanse krever kulturell bevissthet, kultursensitivitet og kulturkunnskap. Fordypningspraksis i utlandet og praksis i et multikulturelt miljø med god tilrettelegging skaper både kulturell bevissthet og kultursensitivitet hos sykepleierstudenter. Studentenes lærings – og undervisningsbehov bør identifisert for å kunne gi en god tilrettelegging. Nøkkelord: kulturell kompetanse, kulturell bevissthet, kultursensitivitet, sykepleiestudenter
