Abstract

Smertelindring – en sykepleiers utfordring. Formålet med denne oppgaven er å finne ut hvordan sykepleier ved hjelp av ikkemedikamentelle tiltak kan lindre kroniske ikke-ondartede smerter hos eldre mennesker. Dette på bakgrunn av at langvarig smerte er et alvorlig og gjennomgående helseproblem hos eldre, og det er mellom 25 og 65 % eldre som bor i hjemmet, og opp mot 80 % av eldre som bor i institusjon som har kroniske smerter. Problemstillingen er: Hvordan kan sykepleier bidra til å lindre kroniske smerter hos eldre mennesker? Oppgaven er en litteraturstudie hvor teori og forskning danner grunnlaget for å svare på problemstillingen. Resultater viser at både musikk, massasje og berøring er tiltak som kan virke smertelindrende i forhold til kroniske ikkeondartede smerter. Allikevel er det betenkeligheter ved bruk av slike tiltak. Grunnleggende behov og miljøet rundt den smertepåvirkede må også ivaretas på en best mulig måte, fordi dette har innvirkning på menneskers smerte.
