Abstract

Rapporten beskriver en studie hvor sykepleiestudenters forberedthet og opplevelse av mestring i praktiske prosedyrer belyses. Det undersøkes hvor hensiktsmessig undervisningens ulike deler med teori, ferdighetstrening i øvingsavdeling og praktisk prøve er for å gjøre studentene godt forberedt til praksisstudier i somatisk sykehus. Følgende forskningsspørsmål ble stilt: 1. I hvilke grad opplever sykepleierstudenter at undervisningen er hensiktsmessig for å lære praktiske prosedyrer 2. Hvilken betydning har den praktiske prøven for studentenes motivasjon og læring av praktiske prosedyrer? 3. Hvilke erfaringer har studenter med egen forberedthet og mestring av praktiske prosedyrer i praksisstudiene? Studien har en deskriptiv design med kvantitativ metode. Et studentkull med sykepleiestudenter (N=75) i 2. studieår deltok i studien. Funnene viser at respondentene opplevde høgskolens tilrettelagte undervisning for å lære praktiske prosedyrer som hensiktsmessig på flere områder. Både teoriundervisningen og ferdighetstreningen ble vurdert som viktig og relevant. Lærere og medstudenter var viktige samarbeids- og diskusjonspartnere. Det kommer frem at praktiske prøve er en stor motivasjonsfaktor for studentenes læring av praktiske prosedyrer. Respondentene opplevde å mestre de aktuelle prosedyrene når de utførte de i praksisstudiene. De fikk positive tilbakemeldinger fra både praksisveiledere og pasienter på sine utførelser. Det å mestre prosedyrene ble vurdert som viktig for deres selvfølelse som sykepleierstudent. Respondentene vurderte høgskolen som en viktig arena for læring av praktiske prosedyrer.
