Is TMD-pijn erfelijk?

Abstract

Om de transitie van acute naar chronische pijn te voorkomen, is het van cruciaal belang om patiënten met een verhoogd risico op het ontwikkelen van chronische klachten vroegtijdig te herkennen en om de behandelmogelijkheden voor deze groep patiënten te verbeteren. Op basis van specifieke persoonskenmerken kan slechts ten dele worden voorspeld welke patiënten chronische klachten zullen ontwikkelen. Recente ontwikkelingen in het genetisch onderzoek bieden echter nieuwe inzichten in de mechanismen die betrokken zijn bij de individuele gevoeligheid voor pijn. Onderzoek specifiek naar tmd-pijn is echter schaars. Vandaar dat, in samenwerking met het Nederlands Tweelingenregister, een tweelingstudie is opgezet naar de rol van erfelijkheid bij tmd-pijn. In dit artikel wordt een overzicht gegeven van de huidige kennis met betrekking tot erfelijkheid en (musculoskeletale) pijn.
