La mirada urbana en Mariano Azuela: 1920-1940

Abstract

Trata sobre el ámbito de lo urbano que se compone de los personajes que habitan el espacio, las características morfológicas de los lugares, y además la interrelación entre personajes y lugares que conforman usos propios y establecen las peculiaridades de la metrópoli mexicana en determinado periodo. La ciudad como personaje significa un inquietante cambio de paradigma; si la ciudad con su manto protector cubre a sus pobladores, entonces los minimiza y les resta personalidad o lustra su existencia urbana; no son los sujetos, sus habitantes, los personajes centrales, sino que es la ciudad el ente primordial, la que los envuelve, domina y controla su vida. En las novelas de Mariano Azuela está plasmada una ciudad de México que se reconoce por las coordenadas 1922-1944, el autor muestra a la metrópoli como personaje principal con estereotipos marginales o populares; personajes secundarios que dan nombre a las novelas y que son una gama como baraja de lotería: "La prostituta de pulquería en La Malhora" (1923), "Los migrantes de provincia en La luciérnaga" (1932), "Los obreros y militares arribistas en El camarada Pantoja" (1937), "Los trabajadores asalariados del gobierno en Nueva burguesía" (1940) y "La vendedora ambulante en La Marchanta" (1944).
