Arquitectura de pabellones, ferias universales y estados nacionales

Abstract

The typology of the national pavilion under the universal exhibitions stands as one of the most fertile areas of experimentation for contemporary architecture. As catalysts for change these structures foreshadow a scenario of future debates in which environmental variables are incorporated as the problems currently afflicting humanity and the need to be discussed in a broader agenda. Consideration of the Argentine Pavilion at Expo Shanghai 2010 according to project conditions, postulates, demands and a private architectural practice, situate research on a national and international context, problematically building the case study in relation to the issues and problems of contemporary architecture dealing with the representative, the show, the ephemeral and complex forms. An analysis of the Argentine case and contrast not only with international cases but with contemporary architectural debates, conclusions are drawn regarding the problems facing our country when it comes to finding an expression of national content. In conclusion a number of recommendations are proposed to achieve a representative architecture, and thus overcome the difficulties it has to date had our country in its participation in international fairs, taking into account the representation of national contents as function and the show as strategy of demonstration according to the fair tradition and considering the theme of every fair.
