Este artículo presenta el tratamiento que Mary Richmond y Jane Addams hicieron de los derechos sociales de las personas con discapacidad, desde el punto de vista tanto de la defensa de los ideales democráticos como de la atención especial que se les presta con el objetivo de potenciar su empowerment y consolidar su integración en la sociedad como ciudadanos y ciudadanas de plenos derechos. Se aborda también la Convención sobre los Derechos de las Personas con Discapacidad, así como algunos hitos de la legislación española, con el fin de asociar la defensa de sus derechos sociales a los principios fundantes del Trabajo Social. The article discusses the views of Mary Richmond and Jane Addams regarding the social rights of persons with disabilities, from the point of view of both the defense of democratic deals and the special attention provided to them in order to enhance their empowerment and consolidate their integration into society as citizens with full rights. It also addresses the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, as well as certain milestones in Spanish legislation, in order to relate the defense of their social rights to the founding principles of Social Work.
