Abstract

Aunque la salud materno-infantil es el nombre que tradicionalmente se le da a las actividades relacionadas con el ciclo reproductivo de la mujer, nosotros, bajo este epígrafe, nos referimos a un área de salud que engloba todos los aspectos relacionados con la evolución del ciclo biológico de la mujer, incluyendo además de la etapa reproductiva las otras etapas de la vida. En estos momentos se generaliza, incluida la OMS, el término de Salud Reproductiva o salud de la mujer y del niño. El objetivo fundamental de este Programa ha sido siempre el mismo: mejorar la salud de las mujeres y de los niños, fundamentalmente, aunque no sólo, en el área biológicamente y socialmente tan importante de la reproducción.
