Abstract

Este artículo resume algunos de los principales resultados de la Estadística de Demanda de Servicios Sociales / Necesidades Sociales 2006 (EDSS-Necesidades Sociales) en lo que se refiere a la prevalencia de las tasas de dependencia y a la demanda de servicios por parte de los hogares con personas dependientes. Los datos de la encuesta –cuyo informe general de resultados acaba de ser hecho público por el Departamento de Justicia, Empleo y Seguridad Social– indican que las demandas de estas personas se centran fundamentalmente en los servicios comunitarios, eminentemente los directamente prestados en el domicilio, y que los servicios residenciales sólo tienen una demanda significativa entre las personas con niveles de dependencia más elevados. De acuerdo a esas preferencias, si la demanda expresada en la encuesta se relaciona con las plazas existentes, se observa que el mayor déficit en el alcance de los actuales servicios corresponde al SAD, que sólo estaría atendiendo a un tercio de sus potenciales usuarios. La encuesta pone de manifiesto igualmente que cerca de la mitad de los hogares vascos desconocen las funciones de los servicios sociales de base.
