Los colegios mayores : historia de un decreto

Abstract

Presentación del decreto sobre los colegios mayores. En primer lugar se analizan los antecedentes del colegio mayor como institución. Los colegios mayores constituyen una de las instituciones universitarias de mayor tradición en España. Hasta su reforma por Carlos III, en 1711, existieron seis: cuatro en Salamanca, uno en Valladolid y otro en Alcalá. EI más antiguo de todos fue el de San Bartolomé, de Salamanca, cuyas constituciones datan de 1405. A continuación se sistematizan los principales problemas de los colegios mayores, y se exponen los principales puntos del decreto 2780/1973, de 19 de octubre, por el que se regulan los colegios mayores. El decreto surge con un condicionante legal, el artículo 101 de la Ley General de Educación, y una amplia consulta de base. Se destacan seis puntos esenciales en el decreto: mayor responsabilidad para los colegios, participación en los Órganos de Gobierno de la Universidad y organismos nacionales de educación, no confundir los Colegios mayores con meras residencias, subvenciones, innovaciones y participación interna. Para terminar se señala que el decreto constituye un paso considerado definitivo en la historia de los colegios mayores, que abre las puertas del futuro para todos los que trabajan y participan de este tipo de instituciones.
