Abstract

Con el término Trastorno de Déficit de Atención (TDA) se describe un tipo de conducta que ha sido designado con otros términos como Daño Cerebral (Dc), Difusión Cerebral Mínima (DCM), Hiperactividad, Síndrome Hipercinético o Hipercinesis. Es un trastorno que afecta tanto al comportamiento y rendimiento intelectual del niño como a su adaptación familiar y social. Pero a pesar de su repercusión en el desarrollo infantil, aún no se conoce con precisión en qué consiste el trastorno. Los diferentes términos con que se le describe son indicativos de los cambios de perspectiva a la hora de ofrecer una explicación del síndrome. En este artículo se intenta delimitar la evolución del trastorno desde que aparecieron los primeros informes clínicos sobre el mismo hasta nuestros días. A continuación se ofrece una descripción clínica del trastorno, predicción, prevalencia y evolución, terminando con una revisión de las principales hipótesis etiológicas sobre el mismo.
