La lectura de textos académicos en la universidad plantea a los estudiantes desafíos que demandan competencias que no son generalizables a partir de sus experiencias de aprendizaje previas. Se reflexiona sobre si se fomentan las competencias que exige la lectura en la universidad y se presentan distintas estrategias para que los alumnos consigan un aprendizaje profundo a partir de los textos académicos con los que trabajan.
