Abstract

The objective of this research is to understand reasons on which the development of investigative competencies depends for the educational praxis of teachers in the area of training of Physics, Chemistry and Biology of the Institute of Basic Sciences of the Technical University of Manabí. The study was based on a mixed methodology. For the analysis and interpretation of the data, in the quantitative phase, where a survey was applied to 160 teachers, tables of frequency distribution and bar graphs were used. For the qualitative phase, as a technique to collect information, semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight key informants. The results obtained suggest that, although the achievements of the university and the participating faculty are commendable, there is still a long way to go in this inescapable professional field. The need for continuous teacher training aimed at research competence has been identified, a work overload of the teaching staff that interferes in their dedication and training, embedded in a limited university economic budget for the development of experimental research and better compensation for the educational work carried out . In conclusion, useful knowledge has been generated for the professional and formative development of the studied teachers and, from there, for the professors of other faculties of the university, and even of other universities in the country, from the best knowledge of their research work , benefiting the education of its students and the development of society
