Se plantea el problema del origen del significado lingüístico. ¿Cómo es posible que los signos se refieran a algo? Esta cuestión puede retrotraerse al problema de la intencionalidad. Siguiendo básicamente el itinerario intelectual de Wittgenstein, se proponen y discuten tres posibles respuestas a la cuestión de la intencionalidad del lenguaje : la solución formalista, mentalista y pragmatista.
