Iglesia y Masonería en la reforma de la escuela uruguaya

Abstract

En este artículo se expone que la masonería tuvo una activa y principal participación en la obra de transformación de la sociedad y de la Reforma escolar realizada en la República Oriental del Uruguay en el siglo XIX. El autor ofrece una visión rápida y esquemática del papel que ocupó la Francmasonería y la Iglesia ultramontana en la gestión encaminada a la modernización de la enseñanza en este país. La presencia de miembros de esta orden en las instituciones de poder explica el predominio de un ideologismo militante que fue el perturbador de las soluciones políticas y pragmáticas de los gobiernos republicanos .
