Train, polish, reform : the education of Basque and Navarre elites : from the Habsburgs to the Bourbons

Abstract

Las reformas en las políticas de reclutamiento dentro de las élites gobernantes que llevaron a cabo los Borbones en el siglo XVIII, logrado mediante el lanzamiento de nuevas estrategias en la selección y sistemas formativos, contribuyó a la transformación de los procedimientos educativos seguidos por aquellos familias que buscan ser parte del nuevo establecimiento político y militar. Se resumen las trayectorias educativas de las familias de élite vasca y navarra que participaron intensamente en este proceso cambiante. Se concluye ofreciendo una reveladora visión de la creación de una nueva élite de familias ilustradas cosmopolitas, civilizadas y reformistas. Pero al mismo tiempo, también se expone la brecha cultural entre estas nuevas élites «civilizadas» y aquellos que permanecieron leales a el paradigma tradicional.
