Trabajo de laboratorio como método científico : tres décadas de confusión y distorsión

Abstract

La justificación planteada por profesores y especialistas en currículum para emplear tanto tiempo, energía y recursos en el trabajo de laboratorio, en los cursos escolares de ciencias, incluye casi invariablemente la afirmación de que aporta a los alumnos percepción, experiencia y práctica acerca de los métodos empleados por la ciencia. Este artículo examina la naturaleza cambiante del trabajo de laboratorio, desde la década de 1960 hasta el presente, desde el aprendizaje por descubrimiento hasta la ciencia dirigida por procesos o los enfoques constructivistas contemporáneos, y argumenta que cada uno de estos estilos de trabajo de laboratorio han falseado y distorsionado gravemente la naturaleza de la investigación científica. Se exponen algunas sugerencias para la reorientación del trabajo de laboratorio, con el propósito de proyectar una imagen de la ciencia que refleje más fielmente la verdadera práctica científica.
