A polissemia da palavra Bairro

Abstract

Bairro constitui uma palavra profundamente polissémica, dificultando a clarificação do conceito. Em grande parte isso parece acontecer pelo facto deste conceito urbano ser muito dependente de um forte conteúdo sociológico e ter mantido ao longo de muito tempo dois significados principais que, em certa medida, podem ser entendidos a partir de noções aparentemente opostas: a separação e a pertença. Este conjunto de notas, compilando várias definições de bairro e incluindo algumas reflexões sobre o tema, insere-se no duplo âmbito da procura de conceitos normalizados e operativos no contexto do Inventário de Conjuntos Urbanos do SIPA – Sistema de Informação para o Património Arquitetónico e como contributo da equipa do IHRU enquanto parceiro do projeto de investigação Bairros em Lisboa.
